The book has 278 pages and is divided into seven chapters. The chapters are as follows:

  • Chapter 1: Properties of the metallic materials most used in vehicles. This chapter explains the characteristics, composition and treatments of the metallic materials, both ferrous and non-ferrous, that are used in the manufacture of vehicles.

  • Chapter 2: Basic elements of the workplace. This chapter describes the equipment and tools necessary to carry out the maintenance operations of vehicles, such as workbenches, vices, clamps, files, saws, hammers, chisels, drills, taps, dies, etc.

  • Chapter 3: Sketching of parts. This chapter introduces the basic concepts and techniques of technical drawing and its application to the representation of mechanical parts.

  • Chapter 4: Metrology and layout. This chapter deals with the measurement and verification of dimensions and geometries of parts using instruments such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, squares, protractors, etc. It also explains how to mark and trace lines and points on the surfaces of parts using tools such as scribers, punches, dividers, compasses, etc.

  • Chapter 5: Manual machining. This chapter covers the manual operations of cutting, filing, drilling, reaming, tapping and threading that are performed on metal parts using hand tools.

  • Chapter 6: Drilling and threading. This chapter expands on the concepts and techniques of drilling and threading using machines such as drill presses, lathes and milling machines. It also explains how to select and use the appropriate cutting tools, such as drill bits, reamers, taps, dies, etc.

  • Chapter 7: Soft soldering. This chapter introduces the process of soft soldering, which consists of joining metal parts using a filler metal that melts at a low temperature. It also describes the types of soldering alloys, fluxes and equipment used for this process.

The book is fully adapted to the new royal decrees and curricular designs of the Transport and Maintenance of Vehicles family and to those of the different autonomous communities. In this new edition of Mecanizado Basico Paraninfo.pdf , the contents have been revised and updated, adding new images representative of the new technologies in machining and increasing the number of theoretical and practical activities proposed.
